Ensight has created a summary checklist to familiarize you with the Categories and Issues addressed in Parts 1 and 2 of BREEAM USA In-Use.

BREEAM is the original green rating system with the most certifications worldwide.

While it is well-known globally, BREEAM In-Use has just arrived in the US market, courtesy of BREEAM USA. BREEAM USA In-Use is a great compliment to LEED for Existing Buildings because it can serve up to 85% of the existing buildings in the US that cannot meet the criteria for a LEED EB: O+M rating.

BREEAM provides a scientifically-based methodology for continual improvement that is applicable to any building.  With no prerequisites or other barriers, an owner or operator can start the simple online environmental assessment methodology right away and gain insight into the current state of their building as well as the improvements needed to achieve a desired level of performance. The program benchmarks performance across 9 environmental sections: Management, Health & Wellbeing, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Waste, Land Use & Ecology, and Pollution.

BREEAM In-Use is a family of three interrelated rating systems, part 1 for the asset, part 2 for the building operations and part 3 for tenants. With a separate certification for tenants, any business that wants to green their office and improve the wellbeing, productivity, and satisfaction of their people - now have a roadmap.

We appreciate the flexibility of this program. Tailored for the under-served market of Class B and C buildings, BREEAM USA In-Use offers a green building standard to any existing building no matter the size, age or condition. It is a good fit for clients with older or under-performing assets looking to improve best practices in environmental performance, and health and wellbeing.

Certification is awarded by BREEAM Assessors through a rigorous review process and site visit.

Just as we were an early adopter of LEED, we are thrilled to help jump start this exciting, new-to-the-US system.  Well-positioned to provide expert and timely advice, we look forward to helping our clients achieve well-deserved recognition.
